Irlbeck Settles Excessive Force Suit For $105K

Twin cities attorney Andrew Irlbeck has negotiated the year's largest settlement to date against the Minneapolis City Council: $105,000. On Friday the council voted to award the amount to Mr. Irlbeck's client, Shawn Ross, to resolve the federal civil rights lawsuit filed against the Minneapolis Police Department and former police officer Christopher Reiter.

In September 2014, Mr. Ross stepped in to break up a fight at the south Minneapolis gas station where he worked. Instead of being thanked for his bravery, Mr. Ross was ordered to the ground before being intentionally and  forcefully kicked by then Officer Reiter. Mr. Irlbeck moved swiftly to file suit in federal court, seeking a just and appropriate resolution to the violation of Mr. Ross's civil rights.
