$225K Settlement Reached in Minneapolis Police Misconduct Case

Minneapolis couple James and Aisha Keten have reached a $225,000 settlement with Minneapolis in compensation for a harrowing early morning raid which left several of their beloved dogs killed and their children traumatized. In 2011, The Keten children, then aged 1 and 3, were eating breakfast at the kitchen table when police entered their family home. The officers immediately shot one of the family's dogs upon entering the house and another when entering the kitchen. The second dog was killed so close to the children that the Keten's 3 year old was splattered in the animal's blood.

Lawyers Andrew Irlbeck and Paul Applebaum sought restitution for the family, resulting in the settlement - one of the largest on record in Minneapolis involving a family pet.
